Dr. Wyatt R. (Rory) Hume

Dr. Wyatt R. (Rory) Hume is the Dean of the University of Utah School of Dentistry, and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education for University of Utah Health Sciences.   A graduate of the University of Adelaide, Australia, Dr. Hume previously served as Dean of Dentistry at the University of Sydney; Dean of Dentistry, then Executive Vice Chancellor, the chief academic officer and chief operating officer, for the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA; then Provost and Chief Operating Officer for the ten-campus University of California System.  In addition to clinical qualifications in dentistry, Dr. Hume holds two research doctorates, one in human physiology and pharmacology and the other in dental science. His research, primarily focused on biological mechanisms underlying beneficial and adverse effects of materials and medicaments used in oral care, was continually funded by the US National Institutes of Health or its Australian equivalent between 1978 and 2002.  He is a Fellow of the Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the peak professional organization in his clinical field. He and his wife Jennifer, a retired law professor, live in Salt Lake City.
